Russian IT exports grew by 80% in 2006

Last year, the export volume of the Russian information technology market grew by 80% to $ 1.8 billion. These data were voiced by the head of the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of the Russian Federation Leonid Reiman at the international IT exhibition CeBIT-2007 in Hannover. According to the minister, in general, the volume of the domestic IT market in 2006 increased, according to preliminary data, by 20% and exceeded 1.161 trillion rubles.

“The IT market in Russia is growing quite intensively, and its growth rates will accelerate,” said Reiman, adding that the measures of state support for the industry and the improvement of legislative norms contribute to this. The minister stressed that the government, in addition to measures to develop the domestic ICT market, will actively promote the entry of Russian companies into foreign markets.

In addition, Leonid Reiman presented some statistics on the number of regular Internet users in Russia. According to him, their number in 2006 was 25.1 million people, against 21.8 million in 2005. Last year, 18 thousand schools were connected to the Network, and about 35 thousand more educational institutions are waiting to be connected in the current year.
