The second Gran Paradiso beta will be available in late spring

Mozilla Corp. plans to release the second public version of Firefox 3 in late spring, with a new option to use online applications, such as mail or office applications, after disconnecting from the Web.

According to Mozilla's chief technical officer, Brendan Eich, they expect to release the final version of the Gran Paradiso in the fall.

Users of web applications such as Gmail, Google Docs, will be able to download data, and then, disconnecting from the Internet, continue to work offline. However, this possibility will appear after a small change (adding a simple API for Firefox 3) in the application code. Such a function will be very useful for those who are unable for some reason to use desktop applications, for example, "Microsoft Office".

Synchronization of browser bookmarks with social bookmarking services (for example, del.icio.us) and an improved password and history manager will also be available.
