Google sued google.by domain

Recently, the Belarusian version of Google is available on the second-level domain google.by .

For a long time, the Belarusian version was available at google.com.by due to the fact that the google.by domain was busy. More specifically, he was bought out by Denis Korablev, the head of activemedia.by. At this time, the site turned Google search interface, which led to google.com itself, sold contextual advertising and links from the main page. True, in September 2008 the site was closed .

Yesterday, Google’s representative Dmitry Sholomko commented on the situation to the electroname.com news project and netnews.by website and said that in December google.by was taken over from activemedia.by in the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus. He also said: "Preparatory work is now underway for the launch of Google services on this domain, and after a while it will function in the usual mode of the Google site." This information electroname.com also confirmed Alla Zabrovskaya, director of public relations, Google Russia.

By the way, I don’t know cases before, when a domain in the .by zone was someone from someone otzuzhen. Not even known cases of filing such claims. So, probably, the situation with google.by can be considered a good precedent in BY-net. The truth is one "but." According to Dmitry Sholomko, they appealed to the court with a claim on violation of the rights to the trademark and company name, since google.by once copied the site google.com. Those. the object of the claim was not the domain itself, but the fact of copying the interface.

It is a pity that this process was not adequately covered in the media, as it happens in the west and even in Russia. Everything went very quiet.

Update. On Habré, there was a user who introduced himself as Denis Korablev - according to him, the only legal owner of google.by at the moment. This is kingday . He published his statement on the issue under discussion in the comments .
