Enforta carries WiMAX to the regions

The Prestige Internet company ( Enforta trademark) announced its intention to launch WiMAX networks in six Russian cities - Voronezh, Lipetsk, Penza, Samara, Tula and Yaroslavl. This will happen, according to the plans of the operator, in the 2nd quarter of 2007. By the end of 2007, the company is going to be present in 32 cities of Russia. Currently, Enforta networks are operated in 18 cities of the country, including Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Prestige Internet is a subsidiary of the Dutch company Enforta BV. According to Prime-TASS , at the beginning of this year the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) became a shareholder of Enforta. The owners of Enforta, in addition to the EBRD, are Sumitomo Corporation, the Baring Vostok Capital Partners foundation and the company's managers. It is expected that the holding's turnover in 2007 will be about $ 30 million.

Founded in October 2003, the Russian Enforta has in its tasks the provision of broadband access services in the country's regions based on the WiMAX standard and other technologies. Currently, there are about 7,000 corporate clients in the company's client base.

According to Kommersant , the Prestige-Internet branch in Samara is already open. Oleg Taynov, Director of Marketing and Products of the company, noted that Enforta is going to provide 70% of the coverage in this city (but not outside of it). Initially, corporate clients will be served - federal banks, retailers "Euroset" and "Svyaznoy" and others, but by the end of the year there will be offers for individuals.

Experts note the desire of large providers in the regions as a trend. In their opinion, what is happening in the wireless access market has already been observed in the fixed and mobile segment. It is becoming harder to work in the capital cities “Krupnyak”, therefore regional expansion begins.

But, while in most cities, operators have only begun to build networks, the Samara WiMAX infrastructure has been operating for two years. Experts believe that Enforta faces competitive competition in the city with at least two competitors - the operators MetrMax and MCC Volga (MegaFon).
