Large corporations pay attention to Linux.

Large US corporations, evaluating the cost savings from using Linux to solve narrow problems (data storage, for example), are considering options for entering this OS into the workflow of ordinary employees. Last month, the leadership of the automaker PSA Peugeot Citroen announced its intention to purchase Linux for 20 thousand internal computers.

Reports and comments of vendors also indicate that the OS of this family is going well in the market. Novell recently announced new contracts with a number of large financial companies.

Although the current share of Linux on the PC operating system can be called modest, it is growing. According to Interfax (reference to the IDC study), in 2006, the share of these “operating systems increased by 20.8% compared to 2006 figures. The forecast for 2007 is an increase of 30%. For example, in 2004 it was 10.5%.

A significant role in the fate of the OS is the position of computer manufacturers. Neither Dell nor Hewlett-Packard has yet released a machine with Linux preinstalled. But companies are investigating this issue. According to Dell spokesman David Lord, over 100,000 people have spoken out for buying a Linux computer that took part in the survey on the company's website (conducted from February 16 to March 7) According to some analysts, the OS may become popular in Asian countries.
