Gachapin is a five year old dinosaur from a Japanese TV series. Mukku is his snowman buddy. Gachapin & Mukku is a children's netbook developed by Kohjinsha and Bandai.
Kohjinsha is a fairly well-known UMPC manufacturer in Japan, and so it’s not surprising that toy manufacturer Bandai turned to this company for help. The poisonous green fruit of their joint work is distinguished by maximally averaged parameters, pre-installed children's interfaces for Windows XP, as well as an extremely interesting price. ')
First about the parameters. Netbooks Gachapin & Mukku are developed on the basis of its popular Kohjinsha ML series and retain all the advantages and disadvantages of the “original. The machines are based on the standard Intel Atom N270 with a frequency of 1.6 GHz, equipped with the standard 1 GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive. The display diagonal is 8.9 - inches, the resolution is 1024 by 600 pixels. Netbook size 28x187x22-33 mm, weight - about 1.15 kg.
The set of software includes a set of thematic interfaces that were developed by Bandai specialists specifically for young audiences. Children's options are bright and fun, on the one hand, they simplify access to drawing programs, a media player, a photo database and a TV tuner, but at the same time limit the possibilities of interfering with the fine tuning of the system. Login with administrator rights is available separately and only for parents.
The netbook price is very interesting. One netbook is sold for 80 thousand yen ($ 890). For comparison, the “original” Kohjinsha ML without children’s themes and acid coloring costs 20 thousand yen cheaper ($ 670). Truly children are a goldmine for developers.
