How many words to leave?

Yes, there was a Bolshevik publicist and editor M. S. Olminsky, and he was a fighter against unnecessary words. Here and there his wrathful tirades sounded like the following: “Read our current newspapers — how much water they have! If “December”, then add “month” - as if December may not be a month, but a black one! Or "a whole series of speakers" - as if there is half a row! Or "environment" - as if the situation is not the environment ".

And once, in a newspaper where our hero worked, a note was received about the demonstration in Tver. It ended like this: “The local police who appeared at the scene of the incident arrested eight demonstrators”. Olminsky immediately proceeds to etch out unnecessary words: “..." Local "- unless the police in Tver could not appear local, but Kazan? Then - “appearing on the scene”; how could she arrest without appearing? And „police“ - who will arrest, except the police? Finally, the “man of the demonstrators” is, of course, not cows and not passers-by. Remains for print: "Eight arrested"; all that’s needed is water. ”

Another Bolshevik, PA Krasikov, opposed such reductions: after the editing of M. S. Olminsky, they say, only a dot at the end of the article remains.
')
- Slander! - answered Olminsky, - It remains not only a point, but also two words that say it all.
