Three weeks ago,
Palm CEO Ed Colligan (Ed Colligan) called the iPhone "a highly developed media player with a phone added." But this does not mean that he likes this state of affairs. According to the New York Times, Palm hired former
Apple designer Paul Mercer to work on a new product line.
In 2001, Apple asked for help in creating an iPod's Pixo design studio, owned by Paul. Although Apple never officially talked about this, Pixo helped work on the operating system, the software and hardware part of the iPod. Mercer himself worked at Apple, developing "System 7" (MacOS 7) and "Newton".
Paul took two more of his employees from the
Iventor design house to work at Palm.
Palm has not updated its PDA lineup since the fall of 2005, and the attempt to warm up the market by releasing a handheld with a hard disk (Palm LifeDrive) was not crowned with success. However, the current circumstances do not suggest that the company is going to give up - rather, on the contrary, - work is underway to create a new device.

In a February interview, Colligan noted:
Our Palm Treo already has 90% of the capabilities of the iPhone, only it costs much less.
Apple COO Tim Cook at the recent Goldman Sachs conference responded to this statement by saying:
If we offer something amazing, I think there are people who pay $ 499 or $ 599.
It is worth noting that what Cook said is true except for America, since in more mature markets, such as Europe, they are not in a hurry to spread big money for technical innovations. So here, Apple and Palm will have to fight for the market.
