Murmansk, the largest city in the world beyond the Arctic Circle, joined the official participants of Earth Hour in Russia. The Governor of the Murmansk Region, Yuri Evdokimov, and the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Murmansk Region, Alexey Smirnov, have confirmed their participation in the Earth Hour. In addition, the offices of Sberbank in Murmansk also agreed to turn off the lighting of their buildings and signs for this hour. The first official participant from Russia was one of the most eastern cities in the country - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky represented by the mayor of the city, Vladislav Skvortsov.

Among 377 cities and 74 countries that made a promise to turn off the light at 1:00 on March 28, there are a number of Russian cities - besides Murmansk and Petropalovsk-Kamchatsky - these are Moscow, Vladivostok, Krasnoyarsk, Krasnodar, Arkhangelsk, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod. WWF is preparing the Earth Hour together with the creative agency Leo Burnett Moscow.

“We expect many more Russian cities to join Earth Hour over the coming weeks,” said Igor Chestin, director of WWF Russia. - We also hope for support and active participation from both our citizens and businesses. After all, Earth Hour will provide an opportunity not only to save energy and money, but will also present the company as socially responsible in the eyes of its customers and partners. ”

The list of cities that confirmed participation in Earth Hour includes 37 capitals and other major cities of the world, such as London, Beijing, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore, Athens, Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Francisco, Oslo, Rome, Toronto, Sydney, Mexico City, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Manila, Las Vegas, Brussels, Cape Town, Helsinki and others. Together with the cities of the world, the Earth Hour will turn off the lights and world-famous buildings and objects such like a giant statue of Christ over Rio de Janeiro, Table Mountain in Cape Town, Merlion in Singapore, Federation Tower in oscow, Sydney Opera House, CN Tower in Toronto, Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and the tallest building in the world - Taipei 101 in Taiwan.
