Jimmy Wales, although he didn’t see “crime” in the
story of a 24-year-old young man posing as a professor, he decided to take up the issue of “cleanliness of cadres” on Wikipedia. The New York Times
writes that the founder of the online encyclopedia plans to introduce a check on all participants who claim to be the holder of an academic title.
The details of how the verification will be carried out are not yet clear. Apparently, Jimmy himself clearly does not know exactly how you can carry it out (although he promises to provide details in a week). Among the possible ways, it is proposed, for example, to fax copies of their diplomas to the
Wikimedia Foundation office or to enlist the support of other authoritative users.
Of course, this idea caused criticism, because, as you know, Wikipedia is “an encyclopedia that anyone can edit.” Even the “heiress” of Wales, the head of the Wikimedia Foundation, Florence Devouard (Florence Devouard) said that he did not support the possible innovation.
