Today, the 31st annual
ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) World Programming Championship starts in Tokyo, which will last until March 16. Participants in the prestigious competition - teams of universities from different parts of the world. They consist of talented students who have proved the right to participate in the ACM-ICPC finals, having won regional competitions. According to the organizers of the championship, these young people represent the 21st century intellectual elite in the field of informatics.
In the qualifying tournaments, which were held last fall, 6099 teams from 1756 universities from 82 countries took part. Passed all the tests 85 teams of three people each. The European group of participants (20 teams in total) ended up with 9 from Russia.
During the competition, participants will be asked to solve about six practical problems of computer programming of a high degree of complexity in 5 hours. Such requirements, in fact, correspond to the curricula of university semesters. The group that has solved the largest number of tasks and, all other things being equal, having spent less time on it, will be recognized as the winner, will receive special scholarships, prizes and praise.
