Introduction to jabber bots

For a long time, I used jabber only as a messenger, but a few weeks ago I came across the address of a jabber bot, which was a dictionary, which seemed to me extremely convenient to use. Soon, my roster was replenished with a dozen convenient bots, and I searched for new ones, including Habr, but I didn’t find anything. I decided to fill this niche and create a consolidated list of bots known to me that, in my opinion, may be of interest.

I will start with the historically first bot and the section of bots related to it: with dictionaries and translators.

The first bot, JID (jabber id), which I accidentally found was

The point is simple - send him a word or phrase in English, and he tries to translate it into Russian, but the result is not always successful. For example:

There are many different translation dictionaries on jrudevels.org , and many are “familiar” with the Russian language, which is good news.

However, if I need a dictionary, then I prefer bots, which can be learned from the “main” dict@darkmachine.org

As you can see, the list is really impressive. But these are only dictionaries, not translators. Only words are translated. For example:

Also worth noting are the translators of the family @ bot.talk.google.com , "Google". But this family offers only two translators familiar with the Russian language: Russian-English and English-Russian.

Now let's talk about the information bots.

gism.portal-on.ru is a convenient transport that sends the weather to the user with gismeteo.ru . For example, 27612@gism.portal-on.ru - the weather in Moscow. Here is a good description.
Any message responds with weather

jabrss@cmeerw.net is a bot that collects RSS feeds and sends them to the user. For example:

After that, I immediately received news that I do not post, since there are so many of them. The bot is very well made, when adding it to the contact list itself sends its own description. A list of commands with a description can be found here .

The next easy-to-execute bot is the whois query bot whois@swissjabber.ch . Send him the address - get the answer.

Next, the bot that I really liked is a handy TV program: tv.on@portal-on.ru . At this address you can find a good guide to it.

Now I will list the useful bot services:

addurl@clck.ru - Link Reducer .
Just add it to the bot roster and send him a long link. In response, we get a short link.

presence.jabberfr.org - Status Display Service.
We go in the review of services to it, register. After that, go to the website presence.jabberfr.org . Enter your JID, choose the type of display.
The resulting link can be added to your signature on the forums and services.
Now everyone can see your status. Example: my status

disk.jabbim.cz - Jabber service for storing files up to 100 MB. Here you will find a description. Jabber service consists of three bots: the first provides public access to files (with a web link), the second - personal storage, the third - a photo album immediately uploading pictures to the site.

And the last, the most "delicious" bot imified@imified.com

This is a bot, a personal information manager that can be extended with widgets (I would call them plugins). To activate the widget, go to the menu section "My Account" by sending "4". Widgets contain everything a soul can wish for:

post widget in blogger from jabber.

Twitter blog and jaiku at the same time. They also have a separate feed ( Twitter , Jaiku )

Postilka in LiveJournal

Post in Wordpress .

a set of network utilities ... ping, traceroute, etc.

And also more than 20 widgets.
The above are those bots that interested me the most. I would be glad to learn from the community about other bots that I have not met.
