Brief testing of free antiviruses

Let me tell you how I did a little testing of free antiviruses and their ilk. Just turned up the desktop infected with any muck. His disk, about 70 GB of information, and became the object of testing. The machine was not specifically chosen, the completely average office computer the year communicated with the Internet and all the nonsense that the owner put on it.

Testing methodology: We install VMware on a clean computer (why should a working machine get dirty). In the virtual machine we put Windows XP Pro SP3. Make the original cast of the system. We will return to it after each test. Download, install and update antivirus. Infected disk into the box and via usb to the virtual machine. In the antivirus set the "full" scan, but disable the treatment. Run and wait for the results. At the end - roll back to the clean system.

I think it would be better to make an image of the infected disk. Remove a copy from the image each time and give it to the antivirus. So you can check the treatment, and not be afraid that the antivirus will spoil the collection of viruses.

Unfortunately, when testing AVG, some of the viruses were killed and there was no point in further testing.

Tested: SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition , Ad-Aware Free Anniversary Edition , SpyBot S & D , Avast , Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 (trial version), AVG .
Spybot was a thing in itself, and too unhurried. I had to exclude it.

Conclusions: A good option for protection is a pair of SUPERAntiSpyware and Avast.

Avast has an amateur interface and is slow, but it knows. SUPERAntiSpyware has a stupid name, but it works quickly and efficiently. Ad-Aware seems to be losing ground, and the interface has changed for the worse. SpyBot S & D - something unintelligible. AVG is not bad. Kaspersky is paid, but there is a trial if you need urgent medical treatment.

This result is in line with expectations. I needed this mini-test to confirm the results of other people's tests. And on a typical office machine. I hope someone will come in handy too.

Log results.
