Performance comparisons between different distributions are made quite often, and usually show the same result, so they are not particularly interesting. Real men love to measure GNU / Linux performance versus Microsoft products. Another “memberer” was conducted on tuxradar.com, comparing the performance of Ubuntu 8.10, the Ubuntu 9.04 cuts, Windows Vista and Windows Seven.
They compared the installation time, the number of clicks made in its process, the space occupied on the hard disk, boot time and shutdown, copying performance from the flash drive to the hard disk and from one hard disk to another, the performance of Python. As a bonus, measurements were made when using the Ext4 file system instead of Ext3.
Test configuration: Intel Core i7 920 (2.67GHz with hyperthreading and 8MB of L3 cache), 6GB RAM and two 500GB hard drives.
In general, both versions of Ubuntu are ahead of Windows Vista and Windows Seven. Under the cut lined graphics (quite a lot, count on the force).
