Nine-year schoolboy writes programs for the iPhone

While peers are carefully removing the typewriter with colored pencils on pieces of paper, nine-year-old Lim Ding Wen (Singapore) creates a slightly different kind of canvas with his favorite iPhone.

Lim, who recently went to fourth grade, loves writing programs for a popular phone. His latest creation, called Doodle Kids, has already been downloaded more than 4,000 times in a two week stay in the AppStore.

The program allows phone users to draw on the screen with a finger, and then clear the screen with a slight “shake”.

His father, Lim Thye Chean, technical director of a local company, also writes programs for the iPhone.

“Every night my son and I watch the statistics that iTunes sends to us and compare who has more downloads,” says Dad.

The boy loves to read programming books and is already writing a new one, everything also for the iPhone is a fantastic game called “Invader Wars.“
