About switching from ICQ to Jabber

Stop! Enough !!! On-to-e-lo !!!

This post is mainly addressed to IT-specialists who by hook or by crook are trying to “transplant unreasonable users” from ICQ to Jabber and wonder why the user does not want to do this.

To be honest, I, too, until recently belonged to a number of such unfortunate specialists. But, fortunately, it seems to me, in the end, a simple truth came to me: no need to replant anyone anywhere! You need to do a few simple things, ensuring a sufficient level of comfort for yourself and others. Here are these things.
')
1. Start using your Jabber account! Stop whining that busty secretary Lena and the girl Katya from the next door use ICQ. Let them enjoy themselves further. You are a reasonable person and should not slide to their level.

2. Get yourself some accounts. It is not enough to have one - the probability of a drop in any service is far from zero. And then it is easier for some users to say their nickname on ya.ru than to explain that both ya.ru and talk.google.com and qip.ru are all jabber servers and they just need to add your megauser@suserserver.tld to start communicating with you . Believe me - it will be easier for you yourself!

3. Never campaign for the removal of ICQ / MSN / Yahoo / Trillian and so on. pagers It will only play against you. People do not want to change their habitual style of behavior at all, so let them not do it! On the contrary. Show what advantages gives them another way to communicate with them (for example, the predictability that the user will be available to business partners; the inability to listen to the dialogue between users; the ability to reduce the amount of traffic consumed when communicating if a corporate jabber server is installed, etc. P.). Also note that the user will not have to learn anything: surely the one whom you will “transplant” is already working with QIP or with Miranda and, in general, it doesn’t cost him to connect another protocol.

4. Be calm.

5. Turn off ICQ.

Instructions for setting up for LiveJournal users (I do not recommend, as the extremely strange XMPP implementation is used): http://www.livejournal.com/chat/

Instructions for GMail users: http://www.google.com/talk/about.html

QIP Infium users receive an account in Jabber as ICQ UIN@qip.ru during registration.

PS The second point, of course, refers to those people who, by virtue of their position, have to be always in touch.
