Gmail: New way to use shortcuts - “Move to” button and autocomplete

One of the features that makes Gmail special is the use of shortcuts instead of folders. Of course, labels can serve the same purpose — they can help organize mail or mark messages for follow-up. And unlike folders, a message may have several shortcuts, so if I get a message from a friend about a trip together, I can mark it as Friends and Travel.

But it’s not always clear how to use shortcuts, especially for people who are new to Gmail and used folders. For example, to move a message from the Inbox folder, and mark it, you first need to make a label using the “More actions” menu, and then click on “Archive”.

Starting today, the menu buttons at the top of your inbox will look slightly different:

Instead of using shortcuts and then archiving, you can simply use the “Move to” button - just like you would use folders.
If you just want to add or remove a label, use the "Labels" button. Autocomplete, for those of you who work with a large number of labels, you can choose the one you want by simply typing the first couple of characters.

We also add hotkeys: V for “Move to” and l (L in lowercase) for “Labels”. Make sure you have hotkeys enabled to use it.

We are making these changes for everyone during today, so you may not see them right now.
