Seagate Announces Its 2 Terabyte
Following Western Digital , Seagate announced its dual-terabyte hard drive. It belongs to the new line of Constellation ES, in which there are also models for 1 TB and 500 GB. Some models are equipped with SATA (data transfer rate of 3 Gbps per second), and some - SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) with a maximum data transfer rate of 6 Gb / s.
As is the case with the new product from WD , the Constellation ES drives are equipped with an automatic power reduction system. And without reducing the speed of rotation of the spindle to 5400 revolutions per minute. Full 7200 rpm provided. The cache in disks with SATA interface has 32 MB, and in models with SAS interface - 16 MB.
Whether Seagate will be second on the list of companies with HDDs of 2 TB is not yet clear. Maybe competitors will be ahead of them: the appearance on the market of storage devices Constellation ES, intended for data storage systems, is expected in the third quarter of 2009.
