Supervised by Intel, the Moblin project is an attempt to create the perfect software infrastructure for netbooks and mobile Internet devices (MIDs) holding on to GNU / Linux.
Moblin is not just an optimized distribution, although it is based on Fedora. The goal of this project is to create such an environment that could easily be placed on any distribution kit, therefore, apart from the Fedora community and its patron Red Hat, Cannonical, Novell, Mandriva and gOS also take part in the project.
At the moment, the following components are being developed within Moblin:
Kernel - modification of the Linux kernel in order to reduce power consumption and increase the speed of the system boot (loading a full working environment in 5-10 seconds).
A user interface written in gtk + and based on Hildon, already used in Nokia's MID (N8x0 series).
Save energy by optimizing all nodes of the operating system.
Connection Manager - a strange bike (full analogue of NetworkManager).
It should be clarified that this project is sharpened exclusively for Intel equipment (Core 2 Duo and Atom), although it will certainly be clear for all other users. At the moment, Moblin was tested on netbooks Acer Aspire One, Asus eeePC 901, Dell Mini 9.
