I wanted to buy something like a small and, most importantly, not an expensive laptop for work. At first I looked at the eeePC, but then a friend almost for nothing offered to take such a unit from him:

Pretty old-fashioned and old-fashioned, but perfectly working.
It has the following characteristics:
CPU | Pentium-II 300 MHz |
Cache | 512 k |
RAM | 32MB SDRAM, up to 160 |
HDD | 4.1 GB, Ultra DMA Supported |
Screen | 12.1 " |
Video mode | 16M @ 800x600 |
Video card | NeoMagic MagicGraph NM2200, SGRAM, 2.5 MB |
External monitor | 256 @ 1280x1024 |
Mouse system | Track point |
Modem | 56k, Integrated |
PC Cards | 2 Type II or 1 Type III. CardBus Supported |
Ports | Serial, Parallel, RGB, USB, InfraRed |
Dimensions | 297x236x24 mm |
Weight | 1.85 kg |
I got it with a 100 GB screw, 160 RAM installed by windows 2000 and a PCMCIA network card.
Also on the laptop, M $ office 2003 felt great. I was very pleased with the USB connector, although it was only 1.1, but for such an outdated device it is great. There is also an IR port, support for an external monitor and 2 PCMCIA connectors. In size approximately as A4 sheet, cm 3 thick.
The battery is already run down, holds 30 minutes, I think later to buy a new one.
In the role of the touchpad appears joystick (also known as the trackpad), which is located between the buttons G, H and B. It is quite convenient, but it is a pity not to press, as, for example, on the phone. On the place where modern laptops have a touchpad, 2 buttons are installed. One above, another below, they play the role of the left and right mouse buttons, respectively. At first it was hard to get used not to press the joystick :).

After much tinkering, I decided to try running a video. And yes! I managed it. A bit of shamanism and Divx / xvid in the resolution of 640x480, 704x288 and other similar spinning just fine.
How I achieved this.At first I thought that the latest software is the best software. In this case, it is not. Video with a fresh package of K-Lite Codec Pack 4.xx just terribly slowed down and stuttered. Experimentally, I found that the best option is the 2.xx series, namely, version 2.40 that turned out to be my case. At first the video slowed down on it, but after half a minute everything could be watched. But everyone told me that it was a silly idea :)
Then, after trying many players, I came across The Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP). This is just wonderful! Not a hint of slowdowns, the video just flies. There is also its commercial sequel - CorePlayer ™ Pro (1.3.0 Build 6213), which is easy to download on torrents. Unfortunately, the latest version does not support audio in AC-3, so when I watch rips with the original sound, I launch its old version. This is not a tricky way you can revive an old typewriter to view a simple video. Matryoshka with AVC unfortunately slows down :)
Now I am thinking of installing some kind of Linux version for weak PCs, maybe something else can be squeezed out.
