Losses of companies due to the activities of cybercriminals in 2008 will amount to a trillion dollars. Such an assessment is contained in the results of a study conducted by McAfee, an IT security company.
The maximum amount of damage incurred by companies from the activities of cybercriminals, experts from McAfee received on the basis of an analysis of data from a survey of heads of IT-services. 800 companies from the USA, Europe, China, Japan and other countries took part in it.
The McAfee study takes into account, in particular, data such as the amount of intellectual property losses and the cost of repairing companies ’IT infrastructure damaged by cybercriminals.

Respondents interviewed by McAfee, said that on average their losses from the actions of cybercriminals in 2008 amounted to 4.6 billion dollars. An additional $ 600 million was spent on the elimination of the consequences.
Also, representatives of McAfee report that due to the economic crisis, the number of cybercrime will increase. In particular, 42 percent of respondents acknowledged that they see a potential threat in workers who will be cut.
In addition, more than a quarter of IT specialists polled by McAfee said they avoid using the services of data centers located in China. At the same time, 47 percent of Chinese respondents see the main threat to their IT security in the United States.
