Stream TV doubled subscriber base - 2006 results

The number of regional cable television subscribers , Stream TV, doubled in 2006 to 1.407 million households. The top management of the company attributes this to the merits of local operators - they showed “high marketing activity”. Other growth factors are indicated - the purchase of new assets and the general rise in the pay-TV market.

According to the Stream-TV group of companies, by the beginning of 2006 the subscriber base of its regional operators consisted of 686.5 thousand households. Considering the recent results, the annual base growth was 104.9%. In total, the group includes 31 cable television operators in 25 cities of Russia. In addition, in 17 of these cities, broadband Internet access services under the Stream brand are provided.

And the amount of covered broadband users in the regions increased 2.3 times last year. Now it is 71.8 thousand subscribers (at the beginning of 2006 - 31.1 thousand). As experts have repeatedly pointed out, the rise in popularity of digital TV is invariably accompanied by an increase in the penetration of high-speed Internet.

The plans of Stream-TV include the further construction and reconstruction of networks, which is being done as part of the formation in each region of its own multi-service infrastructure based on HFC (Hybrid Fiber Caaxial) and FTTB (Fiber To The Building). About 50% of the total network capacity has already been upgraded, half of which (25%) are in working condition and can provide broadband access services based on DOCSIS and Ethernet. It is reported that the total capacity of regional networks controlled by Stream-TV in 2006 reached 3.5 million households (+ 75% for the year).

Recall, according to iKS-Consulting, in 2006, the cable TV segment was divided among themselves by five leaders: AFK Sistema (Stream-TV is a subsidiary of Sistema Mass Media, which is a part of AFK), Nafta-Moscow, Renova-Media, ER-Telecom and Multiregion. Autumn forecasts promised that by the end of the year, revenues from cable and satellite television services would amount to about $ 450 million (in 2005 the market turnover was set at $ 360 million).
