In their own blog, the developers claim that they are not going to compete with well-known web-based office software, such as 37signals or Google Docs , but simply want to supplement this “not productive enough” software with the help of several small, specialized applications.
At the moment, there are only three such applications bundled with 8apps, but as the name of the project indicates, in the future there will be five more. The first three are Handshake, Blueprint and Orchestrate. ')
The Handshake module embodies the basic functionality of a social network, namely, it contains a user's personal page (profile), a pie chart of skills (it is compiled by a vote of friends), a list of contacts (friendlet), and a list of groups the user is in. Although the social network is still at the stage of closed beta testing, but some parts are available for public viewing, so the site can see the profiles of individual users .
You can send comments and private messages through the Handshake module. In addition, third-party RSS feeds can be “tied up” to them.
The Orchestrate program was released as a separate release about a year ago and, as we already said, was even recognized as the best scheduler. This is a really great utility that allows you to create and view various task lists on a single workspace.
The last of the three modules in the kit is the Blueprint brainstorming module, also a rather interesting development. Employees of the working group get access to a common “canvas” on which they can freely express their ideas: draw blocks with keywords, provide links, publish texts. According to eyewitnesses, it is especially interesting when random users are connected to your brainstorming and also share their ideas.
More closely examine the functionality of 8apps can be on the demonstration videos (two parts for ten minutes).
