Anti-dream job: British research station suggests hiding from the crisis in the Antarctic

The Antarctic Administration of Great Britain offers work for a period of 2.5 years, Reuters reports. According to 24-year-old assistant biologist from South Africa, Terry Sawster, who arrived at the station at the end of 2008, “the economy is heading for the dog everywhere, and now is the time to get away from the crisis far away.”

The annual salary on “Rothera” is at least 20 thousand pounds, including the cost of food and accommodation. The tax rate for immigrants from the UK will not exceed 7% in the event that a person spends outside the United Kingdom for at least a year.

“I will have a down payment on the house when I return home. I hope that housing prices during my stay at the base will become more affordable, "- says Australian Melissa Langridge.

In the summer, about 100 people work at the station, in the winter - 20. The base can offer free internet access, computers, a board for playing darts, a billiards table and a collection of movies as entertainment.

Most station workers are unmarried.
