In this article, I would like to tell you about the work of gps in the Nokia 5800 smartphone. This thought gave me a post
on iPhone navigation . There was a desire to compare the work of gps in these devices, as well as to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the navigator in 5800.
Our way was a total of 80 km. Not much, but enough to feel that both the good sides and not so much. I used only the built-in program Nokia Maps, in which, as it turned out, there is no usual map of my region, but there is a very detailed map of, say, Poland. I had to download a satellite map, weighing about 10 megabytes. The map was downloaded as we advanced, rather quickly. Naturally, it was kept in memory, and when I restarted, I didn’t have to download anything. The first part of the way I followed the accuracy of positioning on the map. A regular map, not satellite, is already installed, you do not need to download it additionally. It is pretty good, but, as I said, in the regions it’s impossible to navigate.

The second is 40 km. I dedicated to watching the indicators issued by another program, also supplied with the phone. With its help, you can track the speed of movement, the coordinates at the moment, the path, the travel time, the average speed, some incomprehensible indicator of "height". Yes, and there is a compass in it :)
I must say that the device found the satellites rather quickly, lost contact only a couple of times.

What good is in the Nokia 5800 gps-navigator:
- Good positioning accuracy. Indeed, the phone shows exactly the place where we are.
- Fast start. The phone finds satellites in literally 20-30 seconds.
- Convenient firmware with maps. Nice and simple interface, the ability to take pictures of the map.
- Low battery life.
- Support aGps and Bluetooth Gps.
- You can mark objects on the map, enter a detailed description for them, work their way up to them.
What's wrong with the Nokia 5800 gps-navigator:
- No detailed maps of many cities.
- The need to download satellite images if there is no regular map.
- Sometimes it loses touch with the satellite.
- Odometer flies when you exit the program.
- There is no search for objects, only in cities and streets.

As you can see, the navigator is not perfect. But still, do not forget that this is primarily a mobile phone. In large cities, using built-in gps, you can successfully navigate, do not get lost and do not get lost, but in the regions there is only a satellite map that wants money (albeit at a time) and it is inconvenient to drive around.
A good gps-navigator in the phone is real! Good, but not perfect.
