For piracy, the general director of the plant near Moscow will answer

With imprisonment of up to six years, Viktor Zudenkov, general director of the Unitechnoplast plant, who is accused of illegally manufacturing and distributing copies of Microsoft products, can be punished. According to Kommersant , the other day the Lobnensky Court of the Moscow Region held the first hearing in this case.

The fact that the Moscow region company multiplies pirated discs, it became known in November 2005. At that time , the operation “Counterfeit” was carried out , and during the search of the Unitechnoplast premises, the officers of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate found illegal production - a casting machine for making CDs that did not have a license number. In addition, it was possible to remove a batch of unlicensed Microsoft software discs - a total of about 375 CDs. The lawsuit that followed from the corporation requested, personally from Viktor Zudenkov, 1.9 billion rubles in damages, and the head of the plant would respond under art. 146 of the Criminal Code "Violation of copyright and related rights."

Lawyers believe that Sudenkovu faces not only compensation, but also a term. According to Vadim Uskov, the head of the law firm Uskov and Partners, the verdict is likely to be harsh, since “in Russia, against the background of joining the WTO, there is a need to show the world how we fight pirates.” At the same time, he is confident that it will not work out to plant Zudenkov for six years.

Microsoft expects that the conviction will follow shortly - in February 2007. “This process became a precedent when the head of the enterprise is brought to justice,” said corporation lawyer Alexander Fear. He added that last year Microsoft filed about 70 civil lawsuits against legal entities: “All of them were accused of illegally using our software, compensation for each conviction is from a few hundred dollars to several tens of thousands.”

The news that “active resistance” to pirates is being conducted by the corporation in a most consistent manner. So, it became known that in the Voronezh region, employees of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate inspect a mass of firms. According to ITAR-TASS , the first test results showed that about 10 Voronezh firms use pirated software versions - including those from Microsoft. “If the results of the examination are positive, but there is no doubt about that, then the owners of the companies will have administrative and criminal responsibility,” said Pavel Sushkov, head of department “K” of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate. At the same time, city salons are being checked selling computers and software.

Testing raids were initiated by Microsoft and in Ukraine - local law enforcement agencies conducted them in December, and now the Ukrainian office of the corporation has a list of companies against which claims will be filed for using unlicensed software. Most of these firms are representatives of medium and small businesses.
