Intel has installed solar panels on its data center in Rio Rancho (pc. New Mexico) to test the potential of this type of energy to power ultra-energy-intensive systems.
Of course, for a full power supply of one data center, hectares of solar panels are needed (to be exact, to obtain 1 MW, it is required to close the panels up to 10 hectares), and the panels cost from 25 to 30 cents per 1 kW. Of course, such a project will be unprofitable, although there is a
data center in the world that is completely powered by solar energy.
Intel plans to receive only a small part of the energy from the Sun - for example, this is important in the spring, when public electric networks are under heavy load and there is not enough power at all. Or as a backup power source.

Near the data center in Rio Rancho installed a total of 64 panels with a total capacity of 10 kW. If the experiment is successful, similar panels will be installed on other data centers of the company. Intel management is talking about an "aggressive solar program."
