An interesting
study conducted LJ-user
sheldon_j . With the help of linguistic methods, he made an approximate portrait of the audience for each of the three most popular blogging services in Runet:
Livejournal ,
Liveinternet and
Blogs@Mail.ru . The aim of the study was to test the widespread hypothesis that users of LiveJournal are the smartest, and on Liveinternet and “Blogi@Mail.ru” there are more often uneducated, illiterate people.
At the first stage of the study, the coefficients of the popularity of blog services were determined, that is, the approximate size of the database of indexed records. For this purpose, a
blog search and neutral “window” and “table” search queries were used.
Request | Blogger service | Records |
Window | Livejournal | 686578 |
| Liveinternet | 372433 |
| blogs.mail.ru | 87350 |
Table | Livejournal | 500745 |
| Liveinternet | 229459 |
| blogs.mail.ru | 49423 |
Thus, the LJ popularity index is equal to 594, Liveinternet - 301 and “Blogi@Mail.ru” have a popularity rate of 68.
')
To test his hypothesis, LJ-user
sheldon_j decided to use the
linguistic markers of the three groups.
The first group of markers is words characteristic of network slang and words with spelling errors: pref (distorted hello), pasib (thanks), it seems (it seems), I hate (I), tried (tried). According to the author, these words clearly indicate "moronic or young" users.
Request | Blogger service | Records | Frequency |
Priv | Livejournal | 2937 | 4,94444444 |
| Liveinternet | 15464 | 51,3754153 |
| blogs.mail.ru | 2317 | 34.0735294 |
Pasib | Livejournal | 14420 | 24.2760943 |
| Liveinternet | 16306 | 54,1727575 |
| blogs.mail.ru | 1079 | 15.8676471 |
It seems | Livejournal | 13306 | 22,4006734 |
| Liveinternet | 17612 | 58,5116279 |
| blogs.mail.ru | 2963 | 43.5735294 |
Mnu | Livejournal | 37481 | 63,0993266 |
| Liveinternet | 111929 | 371,857143 |
| blogs.mail.ru | 7331 | 107.808824 |
Probyval | Livejournal | 3333 | 5,61111111 |
| Liveinternet | 2949 | 9.79734219 |
| blogs.mail.ru | 516 | 7.58823529 |
As you can see, the results of the study fully confirm the hypothesis of a higher level of culture of users of Livejournal. In their vocabulary, "junk" words are much less common.
The second group of linguistic markers is the words of their intellectual lexicon, which "most often mark the text as intellectual and have unobvious spelling."
The third group of markers is also checked: the names of politicians. They are also much more common in Livejournal messages.
Thus, the author of the study concludes: “the general feeling left by the services (Livejournal - a gathering of politically concerned intellectuals, Li.ru and“ Blog.ru ”-“ Kish ”reserve) is fully confirmed by statistics and can be considered a medical fact.”
