The Internet monitoring company Webscan Technologies has presented a new edition of its annual rating of the “Top 100 Most Referenced Runet Brands”. In 2006, according to him, the top ten leaders radically changed. The names of the media in the top 10 immediately took five positions, including the first three.

Previously, the popularity of news agencies was not observed, and in the publications, enterprises in the fuel and energy complex and the IT industry increasingly mentioned. “In 2005, none of these brands (media) even entered the top 100,” the researchers clarify. In their opinion, such a sharp jump is due to the entry into force in 2006 of amendments to the law "On Copyright", tightening control in the field of intellectual property. “As a result, most publications were accompanied by references to the source, whereas previously this requirement was met extremely inconsistently,” Webscan believes. The Vedomosti vs RBC process, which lasted throughout 2006, also influenced the copyright compliance culture.

The VimpelCom brand Beeline, which was in 2005 at 11th place in the rating of mentions, turned out to be only 38th in 2006. The reason is the completed stage of rebranding. In the same way, MTS, which in 2006 switched to a single brand style together with other Telecom assets of Sistema, rose from 19th place to 12th.

Leaders among car brands have changed. This industry is traditionally popular in RuNet, but every year preference is given to different brands, the researchers point out. For example, Toyota and Nissan, previously not even included in the "Top 100", take 35 and 46 places respectively this year, while other, previously popular brands have noticeably lost their positions. For example, BMW dropped from 18th place to 51, and Audi - from 44 to 64.

Separate attention, according to Webscan, deserves the appearance in the top hundred Mail.Ru - the company managed to rise to 80 lines, whereas last year this brand was "overboard".

Closes the hundred leading brands of the Runet in 2006 "Borjomi". The growing popularity of the brand led to a ban on the import of Borjomi mineral water to Russia.
