Mysterious countdown on the site. Flash drive with cipher keys. Mysterious messages from a girl who calls herself Loki. Bloggers around the world receive extravagant gifts with a return address at Microsoft headquarters. All these chains converge in one place - at the
“vanishing point” .
A surge of interest in the Vanishing Point puzzle occurred during CES 2007, which was held January 8-11 in Las Vegas. Thousands of viewers saw an
enchanting water video show on the street, where a picture was projected onto a water wall in the air (

Vanishing Point puzzle in detail.

Loki appeared in the fountain on Sunday, just as Bill Gates spoke at CES 2007. The site started working a few weeks ago. The site listed a dozen cities in the United States and Europe and carried out a countdown for each of them. Las Vegas was first on the list. After the aforementioned show, it became clear what was happening: at that moment the first dozen of puzzles became available on the site. Speech by Loki (his video is attached) is the key to solving problems. Players communicate on a special wiki-forum, where they share their tips and conjectures, but the main prize will go to only one.

Now it became quite obvious that the game “The Vanishing Point” is part of Microsoft’s viral marketing campaign for distributing the Windows Vista operating system, which should appear on store shelves on January 30, 2007. Actually, one could guess this from the very beginning, because Loki did not hide its involvement in Microsoft, and the main prize of the online competition - a suborbital flight on a four-seater Rocketplane - was advertised as “full whist into orbit”.
Until January 30, 2007, similar water shows with Loki’s performance will be held in ten more cities, including Berlin in Germany. Until that time, any player who registers on the site retains the opportunity to win the grand prize, regardless of his contribution to the collective process of solving this puzzle. However, only 11 countries are allowed to participate in the rally.
Another special prize awaits someone who determines Loki’s true identity. The winner’s name will be engraved on a batch of AMD microprocessors, a Microsoft spokesman said in
an interview with AP .
