Online sales of content will grow by 75% in 2007

Experts of J'son & Partners believe that the Russian digital content market can grow to $ 2.1 billion in 2007, which corresponds to an increase of 26%. At the same time, in their opinion, the country is only on the threshold of the digital revolution. The market will double by 2010, they predict.

Video, audio, games, etc. will be realized mostly through offline channels through retail networks. At the same time, sales of content via the Internet and digital TV will grow much faster than sales through other channels. For example, online distribution promises growth of 75%, and sales through digital TV - by 44%.

There are objective factors of market growth. On the one hand, this factor is the expansion of the capacity of transmission networks with a simultaneous drop in the cost of traffic, which is especially noticeable in large cities. There, operators are already beginning to look for new sources of income in the production of content and the provision of additional services.

On the other hand, there is a high effective demand for digital content. To a large extent, it determines the fashion for new devices - because you need to fill them with something. Digital content stores are “attached” to some devices, and the prosperity of both businesses perfectly illustrates the marketing effectiveness of such “hubs”.

Taking into account these factors, J & P characterizes 2007 as a key year in the development of the Russian digital content market. Researchers add that in addition to popular mass content, a user generated category of content — videos, blogs, etc. — will play an increasingly prominent role in the structure of consumption.

Popular business models in 2007 are “advertising”, when brands, integrating advertising communications with entertainment services, actually subsidize content consumption, and the “service packaging” model (triple / quadro play).
