The state of development of electronic governments in 190 UN member states is characterized by the following figures:

* in 169 countries, governments use the Internet;
* in 84 countries there are websites of national governments;
* in 36 countries there are single portals that provide access to government services through the Internet;
* 84 countries have local government websites;
* 17 countries have implemented the possibility of making transactions with the state via the Internet.

Thus, in 2001, 88.9% of the UN member states (169 out of 190) used the Internet to varying degrees to provide information and services.
