The idea of creating the site
Stockpickr belongs to stock analyst James Altucher (James Altucher). Judging by the name of the service with the characteristic omission of the letter, James borrowed the idea from the social photo
service Flickr . Indeed, they have a lot in common. Actually, “stockpiker” is a certain analogue of “flicker”, only for stocks.
The main idea of Stockpickr is to use the collective wisdom of the community of traders and investors. The user during the registration process indicates which stocks are in his portfolio, and also writes the reason for choosing each issuer. The system analyzes the behavior of thousands of traders with the same shares in the portfolio and, on this basis of this data, makes personal recommendations. For example, if we specify the GOOG (Google), MSFT (Microsoft), BIDU (Baidu) and YHOO (Yahoo) tickers, the system will recommend to buy more MO (Altria Group), CSCO (Cisco), NYX (NYSE Group), and SLI (SL Industries).
Recommendations from professionals and nonprofessionals of the stock market are shown separately. For each issuer, the system shows how many investors have these shares in their portfolio. For example, SL Industries shares are in the portfolio of only one investor. Obviously, the Stockpickr recommendation algorithm takes into account not only the opinions of other traders, but also the overall rating of these stocks, the dynamics of the course and other parameters. It is also interesting that the recommendations
change every day .
The database has portfolios of all registered users (you can see who is like you and make friends with this person), as well as portfolios of famous billionaire financiers:
Warren Buffett ,
George Soros, and others. Information about their assets is updated daily, so that you can analyze the course of a billionaire’s thought or simply copy his actions, without any analysis.

Last week
it became known that
TheStreet.com , the largest and oldest website about stock trading, became a partner of Stockpickr. That is, serious financiers have accepted Web 2.0 and now, probably, they will start using collective intelligence to the fullest.
