Toshiba has announced that negotiations with Fujitsu to acquire from the latest hard drive business are in the final stages.
Before the end of this week, there should be a meeting of company executives, within which they will have to come to a final decision. But, perhaps, the deal will be somewhat delayed. This is because Fujitsu, which is experiencing financial difficulties, wants to sell the entire unit, including all hard drive plants located in Japan, Thailand and the Philippines. Toshiba is a factory in Japan, as, by the way, and the distribution network is not needed.
But if the deal goes through, then Toshiba, having spent about $ 335-447 million on it, will become the largest manufacturer of 2.5-inch HDD in the world. Information about whether the purchase will happen, how much Toshiba will spend, and what will come of it all should appear at the end of January 2009.
