Would you like some MobileMe?

Mobile me

Would you like some MobileMe? Why is this the way I start my note? Surely many of you will remember that on July 10 last year, Apple opened its long-awaited MobileMe service, which was intended to replace the mac.com service. MobileMe provides the user with 20 GB of online data storage iDisk, nice looking email type acount_name @ me.com, the ability to synchronize desktops, iPod, iPhone and more. And all this for only 99 cu. per year, or 65 euros for Europeans.

Surely many of the curious, such as I, decided to try the service in action. To register a trial account, you need a valid credit card. The trial lasts only 60 days with the possibility of renewal for a fee. However, the renewal occurs automatically . I must say that Apple honestly warns about this, but it is very imperceptible :) Thus, when the trial account ends, 65 euros are debited from your card without any confirmation from you.

The same story happened to me. When I saw that 65 euros were blocked on the map, I was alarmed that I had gotten to some skimmer at an ATM and soon the balance on the card would disappear. However, after going to the bank, and 5 minutes of googling, I understood what was the matter. The problem is widespread! The email with the subject “Your MobileMe subscription starts in 7 days” was safely eaten by gmail spam, so I didn’t know what was going on.

According to this Canceling your MobileMe account , during the trial period, or 45 days from the beginning of the automatic renewal, your account can be deleted by you and Apple will return the funds to the credit card (certainly without a fee :)). Therefore, be careful and delete your trial MobileMe accounts in time if you don’t like the service. Or, in the Account Options, uncheck the Renew option.

Interesting politics, right? :)
