Get my data back, hard drive!

Time flies just unnoticed - it seemed that only recently I wrote about terminals with a single post and a couple of lines about my external Maxtor, but it turns out that a year and a half has passed!

So, after a year and a half - an unpleasant continuation of the story.

About two months before the New Year, I began to notice that the external network drive began to disappear in the system, despite the fact that it was constantly powered from the outlet and nobody touched it - it was located in another apartment.
The temporary RIGHT shutdown and repeated inclusion helped.
')
And on the eve of the New Year, this very Maxtor of mine finally stopped showing up in the system - it wasn’t connected as a network, it wasn’t detected by the utility utility from the kit. I decided that something was amiss - disconnected it, brought it to my house, took it apart.

Then, at the time of writing the review, I did not understand the disc - I did not want to lose the warranty. Now it was not up to her.
In short, dismantled. Inside, everything is done conscientiously - in a cold duralumin container, behind a small cooler, in a large sled with a controller, carefully (4 bolts with gaskets) 3.5 ”500-gigabyte Maxtor Grizzly drive is fixed — a rare piece of iron :) There is no Maxtor itself as such , there could be no talk of support.

I connected it to a known working computer — a disk in the disk manager as I found out in the disk manager ... but I couldn’t do anything with it:

I run tests. SMART - everything is OK:

On the subject of errors, too, nothing was found. I concluded that the disk is physically intact.

It is already good - after all, on this stationary device, I threw all the “large” files “movies, photos (all the pictures from all tus nonimes, my wedding pictures — everything remained in captivity at the Grizzly) on my workcomputer, music, etc. P.

Putting R-Studio , I run the scan all night, with the goal of at least recovering something - hoping, as usual, to get a pile of files without names ... but at the end, it broke off. I did not understand anything at all - whether all the data is scattered around the disk, or something else.

image

Ontrack also did not help - with another sooo long scan, there were millions of files, but at the end - 0.

I decided that I could not do it myself - I turned to IXBT - people understand it more

The first diagnoses upset me even more, then I just imitated the loss of speech, reading the conversation of people "in the subject." Here are just a couple of messages:

As a result, one of them, SerGol , engaged in data recovery from media, agreed to try to help me.

I brought it to the office, they described everything, made an act, took it away. In a couple of days they send the structure of my data in some program - everything before the file was found! I confirm that it is, a little later I get a data disc. I reserve the most-on-the-sea volumetric flash drives in titanium cases :) The disk itself, though working, but now I don’t trust it so much as before - now it will be stored, at best, films available for download on the grid)

By the way, as it turned out, the casket opened up quite “simply”:
Inside was not a standard file system, but some resemblance of ReiserFS, used in some similar devices. Since the drivers for this PC file system do not exist in nature, I had to write it myself.

I am very glad that everything worked out - thanks to the craftsmen, in particular, SerGol.

Successes! May the safety of your zeros and ones arrive!
