Btrfs is part of the main Linux kernel.

Btrfs, the next-generation Linux file system, conceived by Oracle and designed to compete with some of the features of the Sun ZFS file system, has just become part of Linux kernel 2.6.29.

This morning, Linus Torvalds finally “stuffed” Btrfs into the main core.

With this file system, which brings several advantages over EXT4 to the Linux kernel, as well as kernel mode-settings and other features, the Linux 2.6.29 kernel seems to be a very interesting release. Read more about the Btrfs file system on the project website .
