Blogs, ICQ and social networks in RuNet will still “live”

It is expected that the war against cybercrime in 2007 will be fought on new fronts. Trend Micro 's computer security experts predict that hackers will target mobile phone users, IM services, bloggers, and members of social networks. “Hackers are becoming more sophisticated in their attacks,” says Dave Rand of Trend Micro. He explains it simply: “sabotage” on the Web is a profitable business.

An example of social networking vulnerability is the recent occurrence on MySpace.com. Having built a false login page, fraudsters-phishers gathered a good harvest of user login passwords - the one that was partially published after. Social networks are definitely a good place to run malicious software, Rand is sure. IM-services and Internet telephony services, in his opinion, are also under threat. The same applies to the latest mobile phones and laptop computers.

But Russian experts are more optimistic. These potential victims of cybercriminals in RuNet will still live, they say. “I would not expect a significant increase in threats in these areas in 2007,” said Kaspersky Lab virus analyst Alexander Gostev in an interview with RIA Novosti . However, he does not exclude that there will be several virus outbreaks with the spread of Trojans on ICQ. “But I don’t think it will take on a global scale,” Gostev added.

An expert advises bloggers not to upload suspicious files - even if the source who sent them is not suspicious. The same recommendations are given by the head of Trend Micro Competence Center in Russia, Mikhail Kondrashin. He insists at the same time that the risk of virus infection on blogs is quite high. “The fact is that traditional distribution channels today are protected by various products,” explains Kondrashin. - Attackers are forced to look for other loopholes to their potential victims. Such a loophole can be any popular online service. ”

A Trend Micro spokesman believes internetbers should be wary of “alluring offers” calling for the installation of a program. “This is the easiest attack scenario, others are possible,” he says.

As for mobile phones, experts do not expect mass virus attacks in the near future. Viruses are “sharpened” mainly for smartphones, and their popularity in our country is not very high, and this reduces the interest of intruders.

Be that as it may, there are opinions that in some forecasts, experts still exaggerate paint. The truthfulness of these predictions calls into question the editor-in-chief of Yandex Elena Kolmanovskaya: “Companies specializing in Internet security love to make loud statements“ Fear, fear! ”- such horror stories are good advertising for their business.”
