AMD moves: Phenom II and Dragon platform

AMD has released the new Phenom II processor.

It is expected that two types of processors of this series will be on sale:
X4 920 - 2.8GHz - $ 235
X4 940 - 3.0GHz - $ 275

Price and performance of new processors allows them to take place between the Intel Core 2 Duo and Core i7, about the same as the Q9400.

The processor is based on a 45-nanometer architecture, has a 6-megabyte L3 cache and has an integrated DDR2- and DDR3-compatible memory controller. A definite plus is the fact that the processor can be installed on almost any Phenom-compatible motherboard, while the i7 is a completely new platform.

The Dragon platform is nothing more than a combination of the Phenom II, a motherboard with a 7 series chipset and a fourth series GPU Radeon. Manufacturers talk about a higher system stability compared to the Core i7.
