Many expected that the updated Mac Mini will be shown on MWSF '09. And when he was not shown, he was very upset. I have bad news for lovers of the “kid” from Apple - the new Mac Mini, most likely, will never happen. At one point, he will quietly disappear from the Apple Store and become history (as was the case with the Cube).
Why do I think so? No, do not think bad - I am very cute this computer. But the fact is that there is no room left for him, he is redundant in the current Apple lineup. Plus, an indirect argument - the Mac Mini has not been updated for a year and a half.

- Historical. Mini appeared back in 2005 as a solution for budgetary markets. Cases of Apple in those days began to recover, but everyone remembered about the crisis experienced. As far as I know, Jobs was not enthusiastic about mini and went to release it under the pressure of the board of directors. Thus, mini is not an “epl-style” solution.
- Display. LCD monitors used to be quite expensive and not everyone could afford it. In our times, liquid crystal monitors are cheap and are not a factor of significant savings. Apple as it tells us: buy an iMac or MacBook - this is mini, but with screens! At one time, I thought about buying a mini, though I finally made a choice in favor of the MacBook (which most of the time I use as a desktop computer), but at any time you can disconnect all the wires and enjoy the mobility.
- Apple TV. A small Mac Mini was convenient for home use - it is compact and stylish, plus an apple remote attached to it. If you connect it to a TV and stereo system, you get an excellent media center. But Apple TV appeared, which was even cheaper and better suited for these tasks. (Formally. I know that not everything is so simple with AppleTV, especially in the Russian context)
