Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov intends to transfer the country to digital television, reports
Rosbalt . The Federal State Unitary Enterprise
“Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network” (RTRS) may become a general contractor. Probably, construction will begin in the mountainous regions of the republic - Vedensky, Shatoi, Itum-Kaly. In these places, according to Mr. Kadyrov, the problem of the lack of broadcasting is particularly acute. There people do not even have the opportunity to watch the news.
The head of RTRS, Gennady Sklyar, in turn, stated that his organization was ready to do everything possible so that residents of mountainous regions could watch the programs of Channel One, TK Russia + Vainakh, NTV, Grozny State TV and Radio Company, etc. and also listen to the radio "Mayak", "Youth-MK", "Grozny-105.4". To the Prime Minister’s remark that the services should be affordable, he replied that the cost of connecting and receiving the device would not exceed 1 thousand rubles. The term of the project and its budget has not yet been named.
Market participants estimate the cost of building a network of five to ten transmitting stations at about $ 10–15 million. They note that receiving frequencies will not be a problem in this case. According to Kormersant, Corbina-Telecom senior vice president Alexander Malis, the successful launch of digital TV in extreme conditions of Chechnya would be a strong argument in favor of RTRS, as well as proof that the federal state unitary enterprise can successfully solve such tasks throughout Russia.

This acquires particular relevance in the context of the struggle of the RTRS and the Ministry of Information Technologies for the right to head the program of digitalization of the Russian television broadcasting. According to a number of estimates, its budget will amount to $ 4 billion. The state will finance the program for six years.
Experts predict that the PR effect of Chechnya’s digitalization will be especially outstanding, which, no doubt, is very useful for RTRS. Only the short existence of a new network can spoil the quality of the effect. As it is known, terrorists in the country regularly encroach on such objects. So, according to Sergey Soldatenkov, MegaFon’s CEO, six operator base stations were undermined in Chechnya in just one year, Kommersant reports.
