The sleepy people of the planet Earth slowly come to their senses after NG, and we will show them what can distract them from a terrible headache. In particular, open-source racing games.

Well, a very beautiful game. The standard package includes only one model of the machine and one track, which is compensated by hundreds of megabytes of cards and machines laid out in the network. The developer maintains a blog in which all the innovations included in the game are published. The presence of the network mode is good, but I would like to see the presence of a central server to search for opponents. The game has many bugs, which is explained by the development of the game for a certain hardware. The most perfect, in the graphic aspect, the game.
TORCS
Latest version: 1.3.1

The most famous racing simulator for Linux and derivatives, included in the repositories of the most popular distributions. Development has already been going on for more than eleven years. The graphic component is much worse than that of Racer, but the landscape is more detailed. The previous release was back in 2006, and the latest version is timed to the new, 2009. The game is not demanding of resources, and works more than stably. Strictly recommended for familiarization. Judging by the ads on the site from time to time there are championships.

The most beautiful cards here. There are many, but each track is unique. A special bow to the authors for the thumbnails of cars, here it is most clearly shown. As a game, it's just a collection of tracks and car models, without any championship, as, indeed, in Racer. So, on the one hand, this is a wonderfully developed game project, but on the other hand, it cannot boast anything but beautiful landscapes. Fans of urban street recommended.
Ultimate stunts

OpenSource remake of DOS games. Graphics moved to 3D, but it was too bad. Graphic execution is lower than all the other examples, but at the same time it eats resources like Racer. Installing from binary packages did not work, so I had to assemble by hand. Honestly, I don’t understand what is in this game. But out of respect for the fans discussing it on the forums, it was worth mentioning.
Trigger rally
Latest version: 0.5.2.1

Rally races have always seemed to me difficult to manage, but this surpassed the entire line of CMR together. But if you try to pretend to press the Back key, more often than Forward, then the victory will be yours. The graphics in the game are below average, and for the design of the developers' locations, they need to be placed against the wall, which, incidentally, does not prevent the game from being exciting. The hoarse roar of the engine covers all the minuses and calls for a ride with wild drifts in the next snow location. Strictly recommended for people spitting on the visual image.
Maniadrive

The game was conceived as an OpenSource equivalent and now popular TrackMania. That's just the developers have mixed up something. Instead of a sports car, we were given a family minivan, and instead of futuristic landscapes, a lawn with curved rides. And if in TM the most pleasant is the sensation of speed, and the tricks are only an addition, then on the contrary, it is the tricks on the road that go ahead, on a ridiculously slow machine. But the game seems bad only when compared with TM, and as an independent product deserves praise for the well-chosen soundtrack and a variety of levels.

Actually there is a problem with the graphics engine Ogre.
Total:Looking at all this mess I want to cry. It feels like the only game brought to mind from the list is “Trigger rally”. It feels the integrity of ideas, ease of implementation and the classic setting by editing configuration files. The rest will have to be honed for a long time in order to become complete products.
PS All games were played on Acer Aspire One with eeebuntu installed.
