The realities of the Russian mentality

We went with my wife and 2-month-old daughter to walk on the street. In the vicinity of our house, we saw two burned cars, and a sad grandfather sticking the broken glass of Oka with cellophane film. My wife and I discussed it, we decided that it was unlikely that the cars had set fire by chance by running a number of fireworks. If only because it is a courtyard (next to it there is a park with large glades), and the cars were a few meters from the houses: the windows of the houses are intact, and it is much easier to break them with fireworks. At the end of the walk they came up to grandfather, asked if it was he who broke the glass, or on purpose? With regret, the grandfather said that he was specifically drunk companies. The cars were also set on fire intentionally.

Why am I doing all this? Why is a holiday for people in Russia - is it the grief and loss of other people?

PS Happy new year!
