Two factors have come together, and now we have a more favorable environment for breeding fraud on the Internet than before: 1) it has become easier to transfer money and 2) a lot of virtual representations of real people have appeared on the Internet that look quite reliable to others.
1. Money transfer made easy
Internet currency . Previously, it was not so easy to transfer money: you had to have a WebMoney wallet or Yandex.Money, to be able to use it (which is not so easy), at the time of receiving a fraudulent offer, you already have an account and money on it ... To accept Internet money, to go out and replenish someone else's account has become easy and accessible to anyone - you no longer have to be a geek.
Transfer to a bank account in the office or
online banking . Here in the details required at least an exact match with the name of a friend. It’s not so easy for enemies to make multiple accounts, it’s hard to be anonymous. In addition, online banking is still weak among the “gullible” audience.
')
Through the phone . Putting money into a phone bill is also easy, but withdrawing money from there is already more difficult and the losses should be much greater. Plus, it’s not as easy as keeping your money online with anonymity.
In general, let's agree on the fact that it has become easier to do since not so long :).
2. More virtually real people
On the Internet, thanks to the well-known soc. networks, many
virtual personalities are now created representing
real people who a) look like our friends, i.e. with weighty credibility and b) at the same time, these “personalities” are easy enough to fake to ask friends to transfer a little money to debt - through a virus program, or by picking up a password.
Contacts in
ICQ include, in general, the same. And even earlier I had to send Nigerian letters to the broadcast ... The current situation is much more convenient for fraudsters - and all friends are recorded (hello to Comrade Major), and the level of trust between them is all too high: in soc. networks are usually friends with real friends - compare with LJ, or with largely random IM dating.
Total
The inexperience and gullibility of a large number of Internet workers (many of whom start with water students) aggravates the situation. And in general, all these schemes work in many ways “for them”: some can be easily cracked, others can now simply part with their money.
And the important thing is that together these two factors give rise to something more than separately - if there were not one of them, the number of such incidents would decrease disproportionately sharply.
PS This occurred to me in the wake of the New Year's Eve attempt to lure the money vkontakte.
