San Francisco Municipal Network Invader to stand trial
System Administrator Terry Childs, who seized control of FiberWAN San Francisco's municipal network in July, will face trial on January 13. The relevant decision was issued by the judge of the Supreme Court, Paul Alvarado, after eight days of preliminary hearings. Childs, who has been in prison since July 13 and can only be released on bail of five million dollars, has been charged with hacking into computer systems.
The sysadmin has worked in the telecommunications and information services department of the San Francisco Municipality for five years. The FiberWAN they captured was responsible for transferring 60 percent of the city administration’s data, including payroll records, prison records and law enforcement records.

According to the charges, the city spent at least $ 1.45 million, trying to regain control of the network. Access to the system was restored after the mayor of Gavin News met with Childs. The defense claims that Childs had reasons for intercepting control, since his colleagues and bosses had previously harmed the system, and the sysadmin was the only person who knew how to handle it.
