Google Base promotes podcast hosting
Among the text ads in the Google Adwords system, brand-name ads from Google recently appeared, which invite you to download podcasts to Google Base , where a new podcast section has opened.
Indeed, as of today, Google advertises a podcaster section on its website and states: by downloading podcasts to Google Base, you thereby guarantee that millions of Google users will be able to find them in their search results.
As you know, documents of any type can be uploaded to the Google Base Universal Data Warehouse, which are immediately indexed and placed in the (separate) Google search index. This system is used to publish private announcements, uploading documents and other files, when it is too expensive to create a separate website for them, etc. For each file that is uploaded to the “base”, a set of keywords and a description for the search are indicated.
A set of keywords is selected depending on the type of information: an event announcement, a house for sale, a job ad, news and articles, a professional resume, a recipe, background information, etc. A total of 15 preset thematic tags are supported. One of them is a “podcast”.

When uploading a podcast to Google Base, you are invited to specify its title, author’s name and homepage, podcast topic and a short description. You can “attach” up to 15 files to this record (from your PC or from the Internet) and with one click download them to Google’s “base” (up to 20 MB at a time). An alternative way to upload files is via FTP with a description in RSS / Atom format . This option is probably better suited for podcasts, especially since there is no limit of 20 MB.
True, here the podcast awaits an unpleasant surprise: the system does not support downloading MP3 files or other sound formats. Apparently, their support will appear a little later. Of course, it is very strange that Google has already launched an ad for “podcast downloads”, whereas in practice this feature is not supported.
In fact, now you can only add to the “base” a description of your podcast with a link to your website, where these podcasts are physically located.
Like all Google Base users, each podcaster receives a temporary email address for comments, and on the same page you can choose the budget of the Google Adwords advertising campaign for your content.
Text content almost instantly appears in the Google Base search index, including in a separate interface for searching podcasts .
