Surely, you sometimes had to deal with the need to clean the hard disk, for example, before you sell a computer as a used \.
Sometimes, I am sure, a little thought slipped in: “But did I really delete everything at all?” Because of my work, this happens quite often: a new person has come, you can give him the computer of some dismissed employee. It often happened that the previous owner kept confidential data on the computer — corporate credit card numbers and CVVs, lists of employees, salaries, and so on. Unfortunately, I do not know all the currents of the formatting process of disks, but judging by its speed, it does not overwrite the entire contents of the disk. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I wanted to be calm.
Having rummaged a little on the Internet, I came across an interesting project -
Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN) . The software product is absolutely free.
For me, this was a great solution for preparing discs for further use. DBAN is distributed both as an image for a CD and as an image for a floppy or flash drive.
DBAN loads automatically, and offers automatic or interactive control. In automatic mode, DBAN clears the contents of all hard disks that it can find in the computer using the DoD Short algorithm. This is a US government standard that guarantees an average degree of protection against data recovery.

In manual mode, there is also the possibility of choosing a cleaning algorithm. There is also the easiest option - to drive the disk with zeros.
With all this, DBAN has a clear non-graphical interface a la "Windows XP Installer".
PS> I just wanted to share, I will be glad if it seems necessary to someone.
