Problem
The forums often ask questions without looking for a pre-existing answer. As a result, the forum is cluttered with similar branches, it becomes more difficult to search for them, the administrator and users swear at each other, and work on gluing is added.
So, we have a visitor, for one reason or another, not following the hard way suggested by the administration.
On the other hand, the forum provides:
- text box for the search query
- and a large text field for the new branch.
')
And, at times,
their contents are very similar ...
Posting as search
Why not combine the two into one?
For example:
- the visitor starts asking the question as usual
- without adding a record in the database, the system looks for similar branches and, if it finds it, strongly suggests to familiarize with them,
- in the case of mutual agreement, the Earth will cool for a few moments later.
If the operation will be performed for too long for a single HTTP request, you can send an automatic “response” to the email of the author; posting itself can be postponed.
What already exists?
I have not yet met (and I want to be the first). Send links if the hand does not falter :-)
On Habré there is a similar functionality, "Related publications" (in wordpress blogs, too, something happened), though the goal is achieved somewhat different, and Habr is not a forum. But it works well! So technology will be required, fact, but I do not think that this should be something extraordinary.
