Color palettes from 33 sites

More recently, in this survey , I asked the habra people: “How many colors do you think in the Habra palette?”. As it turned out, the overwhelming majority was mistaken, which is not surprising, since, in fact, it is difficult to assess or estimate in the mind more than 35 colors. In addition, some of them, mostly shades of gray, are similar, and the page itself is often indistinguishable from each other.

The process of analyzing the palette seemed interesting to me and I analyzed another 33 sites that I visit periodically and more often. Below I would like to share with those who are interested, the results of the analysis.

Color analysis was performed using ColorZilla, an extension for Firefox. The analysis involved the colors of DOM elements with the exception of images, flash, banners, background body by default. Evaluated only the main pages of sites.

Analysis

A more detailed examination revealed the following figures:

• 785 - total colors used (~ 24 colors per site!);
• 495 - unique colors;
• all pages contain black (# 000000) and white (#FFFFFF) colors;
• only five sites do not override the standard link colors (in other words, the standard for firefox colors used at the time of analysis are # 0000ee and # 551a8b);
• most sites contain # F0F0F0;
• more than half of the sites use colors # 808080, # 666666 and # 999999;
• most of the color matches are in shades of gray;
• almost all sites implement their design with a set of unique colors;
• The most extensive, in terms of palette, were sites: ag.ru , thinkvitamin.com , which use more than 50 colors.
• sites with the most narrow palettes were: useit.com , google.com , bash.org.ru and ozon.ru.
