A survey conducted quite clearly showed that such an abbreviation for the habrasoobschestvu little known. Surely even less heard about ECM, CRM, SCM, CPM, BPM and other terrible three-letter abbreviations.
Tellingly, there is no other way to learn about the current state of affairs in the field of enterprise automation, except to rummage around yourself or work in this area. Universities do
not teach this rarely. (By the way, I was very interested in the subject of “information management”, which I met in the comments - what else was they taught there?). Of course, it pleases people to educate themselves, but the absence of at least an initial introduction to this topic in universities is not happy.
Meanwhile, the direction of business automation, in my opinion, is one of the most probable ways that any student of the IT specialty will take after graduation. Just because it is a very big business and a very large industry, and it’s almost impossible to touch it anyway.
For example, according to
the Forbes 2000 list , among the largest global companies are companies whose lion’s share of revenues is income from products and services in the field of business automation (creation and implementation of ERP, ECM, CRM, etc.). Consider the first few places:
1. 37 place - IBM (WebSphere, Lotus, consulting).
2. 63rd place - Microsoft (relatively recently entered this sphere, but very loudly: Dynamics AX, NAV, CRM; SharePoint).
3. 176th place - Oracle (a key product other than a DBMS is Oracle Applications, portals).
4. 213 place - Google (not very active in the corporate market yet, but clearly wants to go there).
5. 319th place - SAP (their entire business is ERP and consulting).
6. 443 place - Accenture (of course, they also do infrastructure work, but consulting and implementing ERP and other classes of systems is one of the main parts of the business, including in Russia).

The rating of Russian companies is also headed by developers and integrators, for whom the topic of introducing automated enterprise management systems is key: NCC, Technoserv A / C, LANIT, IBS, CROC, I-Teco, 1C, Optima, etc.
Look at the number of their employees. Imagine how many of their partners work in the development and implementation of business systems for the corporate market. Well, now the topic of ERP is interesting?
